Multidisciplinary exploration of creativity: Understanding creative process for research innovations
From June 2 to 6, 2025, Aix-Marseille University hosted the very first edition of the InCIAM–ISSCI Conference and Summer School on Creativity, in partnership with the PSYCLE Center, the Creativity and Innovations Institute (InCIAM), and the International Society for the Study of Creativity and Innovation (ISSCI).
Held entirely in English, this international event welcomed PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career scholars from diverse disciplines to explore creativity as both a research topic and an innovative methodological approach.
One of the highlights of the event was the involvement of renowned national and international experts in creativity research, who led conferences, workshops, and group activities. Representing diverse fields —including psychology, education sciences, design, and management— their contributions emphasized the interdisciplinary nature of creativity and its significance across multiple disciplines.
The summer school emphasized active participation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and experimentation. Throughout the week, participants worked in teams on innovative research projects related to creativity. These collaborative projects were presented at the end of the program and evaluated by a jury composed of junior and senior researchers. The most promising teams were awarded the ISSCI Prize (€800 per group), as a way of encouraging them to continue developing their ideas beyond the summer school and to support the potential launch of their research projects.
